Artist Statement
Memories are things we shouldn’t want to let go. Memories
keep us young, they keep us alive and they keep us remembering. My series of
art work this year reflects memories of my past and my family members
past. I use many different techniques of
photo transferring. Some are more cloudy to represent disappearing memories,
like Transparent Memories because I don’t
really remember the details of when that picture was taken. Some are strong images that represent vivid
memories that will be kept forever, like Stitched
Love because I can remember that this was my first day of kindergarten as I
left for school and my dad left for work. I sew into Yupo paper or water color
paper, that I photo transfer and water color on, to show a sense of emotion in
the subjects life. All of my pieces have either a stitched border or some have linear stitches making a circular like figure around the images. Most of the water
color I use is bright. When I began this
series the pictures where focused on my dad and then blossomed into older
family pictures on my moms side of the family. The reason my dad was my first
subject was because 3 years ago he died from bladder cancer. At that time I realized
how much memories count. My father obviously isn’t around anymore so the only
thing I have to remember him by is the memories and pictures from the past. Make the most of your time and relationships
with people. I hope and challenge that these pieces of art get you remembering
your own memories and that you will never forget them. One day you might lose
someone who you love dearly and the only thing you will have left is memories.
